How to make bias binding

This is very easy if you have a long ruler.

  1.  Cut a regular square of fabric.  This one is 11.5" on each side.   Cut along the diagonal.

  2. Pin bottom of lower triangle to top of upper triangle, right sides together.  Sew a 1/4" seam.
  3. Press seam open and mark parallel lines 2" apart.   (or whatever width you need).
  4. Now the tricky part:  Bring remaining short sides together; match up the end of line 1 (blue pin) with the end of line 2 (yellow pin).
  5. Sew 1/4" seam and press open.  There should now be a continuous line sprialling around the whole tube.  Cut along the lines.
  6. Press in half lengthwise.  Now you have a little less than 4' of 2" bias tape.
  7. For a longer tape, start with a larger square.
